A dollop of Chutney, or maybe two- A Family Cookbook Journal.

Listening
The book Chutney is purely inspired by my family and the time we spent together after years due to the countrywide lockdown in 2020. We all love to cook and eat. Ironically my family business is also related to food. During this time, I also developed an interest in watercolours. Through this project I wished to combine the two.I also approached the book as a physical object, exploring paper textures and binding to enhance the meaning.

Building
The process began with speaking to family members and gathering recipes that hold meaning to us. I photographed dishes, created watercolor illustrations, and experimented with collages using both photos and hand-painted elements. These were scanned, edited, and then brought together through the final layouts of the cookbook journal.

Becoming
I simultaneously took feedback and worked on different iterations before printing out the first draft, based on which I made a few changes before the final version. The aim was to capture the essence of our culture and share the joy of food.
