Better Batter

Better Batter

Better Batter is a visual and tactile experience exploring cakes. Each pie-slice unfolds to reveal a cake's artistic identity.

Listening

My love for baking began quietly, growing up in my father’s Prakash Bakery. Being around warm ovens and everyday cakes made baking feel familiar. Over time I started experimenting on my own at home, mixing flavours, and creating little mashups just because they were fun. And if chocolate was involved, I was always happy with the result. This zine is a collection of a few of my favourite cakes and the interesting stories, histories, origins, and small quirks behind them that make these classics even more enjoyable. Everything you will see here has been captured through my lens, using the cakes from my father’s bakery.

Building

The folding mechanism went through several iterations, figuring out the right fold lines, how the slice opens, and keeping it intuitive enough to unfold without instructions. Mockups were made by hand to test the structure before finalising.

Becoming

Each slice is designed to be unfolded, and explored. The tactile quality of the paper and the reveal of the design as well as the story inside makes the experience as satisfying as it is visual. It becomes Better Batter.
